Do we offer hands on Physiotherapy?

Sports Massage treatments in Kenilworth, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Solihull

Hands on techniques have always been a cornerstone of Physiotherapy treatments and at The Reinge Clinic we allow for longer sessions, just so we can incorporate hands on assessments and treatments into every Physiotherapy session you have with us in the Rugby area. While these techniques are sadly rarely being utilised in NHS settings, they are often found in Private clinics.

Whether we are assessing your muscle firing patterns, your muscle strength or your joint movements, hands on Physiotherapy is essential to ensuring you treat the body effectively. By using deep tissue massage techniques we can loosen muscles to check whether they are weak, or just tight. We can assess the effect of loosening a muscle on firing patterns and pain levels. This helps to inform our treatments and ensure we can a faster response to treatments.

For example, we could send you home with a sheet of stretches to do, or we could loosen the muscles manually in our clinic near Rugby and get an immediate response. Allowing you to focus on strengthening while at home.

At The Reinge Clinic, each session is a dedicated 50 minute long experience, even our follow-ups. This allows us to incorporate hands on techniques into every session to maximise the effects of pain reduction and muscle activation.

Why do I need to do strength work?

Strength training is essential for long term solutions to pain and injury.  Without strength work, you can never fully resolve a muscular issue. While our Rugby therapists use massage based techniques to loosen your muscles and realign your body. Whilst we can’t strengthen you, sadly that area remains in your control, we can ensure the exercises we give are targeted to get the maximum effect on your situation and ensure you are confident with how to do them before you leave our Rugby Clinic.

Ian’s extensive biomechanical and muscle strengthening knowledge, formed from years of experience and backed up by a sports science degree as well as personal training qualifications, means we can often give you, just one targeted exercise, tailored to ensure we get the effect we are looking for.

This means that even if you are an exercise phobic, we can usually create an exercise that won’t impact your life too much, but will get the change we need to resolve your pain or injury.  That exercise is important, because, once we loosen a muscle, it will begin to return to it’s “normal” length, which is why massage alone will only produce a limited effect. Strength work, helps to retrain that muscle to a new tone and in doing so creates permanent change over a period of around 6 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions about Physiotherapy in Rugby.

No all our appointments can be booked directly with us, by calling or emailing us or using our online booking system. There is no need to contact your GP

All our Physiotherapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Unlike many of our competitors all of our follow up appointments are also 50 minutes long.

Having 50 minutes means that we can reassess your condition at every appointment. This allows us to check that the exercises are doing what we need and you are progressing.

Each follow up will also involve hands on work in the form of massage or soft tissue techniques and we will also check and change exercises at every appointment session.

We don’t feel we can do that effectively in less that 50minutes, so all our appointments last 50 minutes.

Depending on the area that needs to be assessed, we would ask you to bring a pair of shortish shorts, or a strappy top.

This allows us to see as much as possible so we can affectively assess you.

Our assessments often involve taking measurements and watching how muscles interact, so the ability to see the muscles is very useful.

You can either send us an email, give us a call, or use our online booking option.

You are very welcome to call or email Ian or Gina directly to discuss your condition prior to booking.

Physiotherapy is rarely a painful treatment. Assessing an injury or a sore joint can be painful, but allows us to understand where the pain is.

We use hands on techniques within our treatments and these can sometimes be uncomfortable but rarely painful. If things are painful, please let us know so we can modify our assessments or treatments.

If you have a complex health condition, or multiple health conditions,  we will always discus your situation with you prior to any appointment. We want our treatments to work for you, so, if after chatting to you we are unsure whether we can help; we will usually offer a Free assessment to confirm whether we can help with your specific issue.

For those with complex conditions, we will be able to suggest which of our therapists will be the best one for your specific situation.

Yes we can. We have several ways of referring you for imagery if we feel it is necessary.

We would start by writing a letter to your GP detailing the condition and why we feel a Scan or X-ray would be useful. Unlike many clinics, we don’t charge to write letters to GP’s.

If you would prefer to go private, we link in with Scan.com and several local private scanning companies. We can quickly and easily refer you directly for a Private MRI Scan, Ultrasound Scan or X-Ray should you need it without the need for GP involvement.

The results are then sent directly to us,  as well as to you, and we are then able to explain them to you and  to write to your GP for a consultant follow up should this be required.

Ian is our only Chartered Physiotherapist so the only one able to give Physiotherapy Treatments. However, if you would prefer to see a woman, Gina is an advanced level Sports Therapist and can treat most conditions.

Give us a call to talk over your situation and we can ensure you see the right therapist for you.

If you wish to claim on your private insurance, in most instances, you will need to book in with Ian rather than Gina, as many Insurance companies don’t cover Sports Therapy Treatments.
