Why have a running analysis?

Your running technique affects more that your run times – it significantly influences your susceptibility to injuries. Our Running Analysis Leamington Spa therapists understand that every individual runs uniquely, and what forms an optimal running style for one runner, may differ for another.

When your foot makes contact with the ground during a run, a ground reaction force travels up your body, affecting your joints, muscles and firing patterns. Your body’s specific mechanics,  determine whether this force enhances or limits your running performance.

Your specific movement patterns can promote an effortless running style as they interact through your knees, hips, back, and shoulders. Alternatively, these forces can create restrictions, potentially setting you up for future injuries.

Booking in for a comprehensive running analysis is a fundamental step in your running journey. Our Leamington Spa specialists recognise the pivotal role this analysis plays in optimising your running technique, boosting performance, and minimising the risk of injuries.

What happens during the Running Analysis?

Our Running Analysis Leamington Spa sessions are meticulously designed to evaluate all areas of your running.  Within a 90-minute session, our specialist therapists will consider all areas of your running, from your posture, to your shoes and your stride style.

During the 90 minute session our specialists begin with an in depth assessment of your posture and joints. Once completed we continue to take a look at your running style. Utilising video technology, we capture your natural running form in the real world rather than on a treadmill. This is due to the forces working in a very different way on the road to on a treadmill.

This allows us to slow movements down enabling us to see how your body responds when your foot hits the ground. We look at your whole body from the very soles of your feet up through your shoulders and into your head.

By combining our video analysis, with the postural analysis and your personal history we are able to enhance your running style. Our objectives are clear, we aim to elevate the efficiency of your running, helping to improve  your race times. At the same time we aim to rectify any existing running injuries whilst safeguarding against future ones.

During the Running Analysis Leamington Spa session, we invite you to bring and run in all your various shoes. In addition to our assessment, we are able to then offer bespoke advice on shoe type, running and strengthening programs.  Every Leamington Spa runner is an individual and any running style, shoe type or injury assessment needs to be just as individual.

What can we do for running injuries?

Unraveling the complex area of running injuries, involves understanding the forces that start with your foot striking the ground, and create a chain reaction through your body, affecting your legs, knees, hips and even your back. This bespoke understanding of your injury, begins with our specialised Running Analysis in Leamington Spa.

When you book in with a running injury, our Leamington Spa specialist therapists commence by giving a through assessment of the affected joint or muscle. We will often test muscle firing patterns or measure the circumference of your  legs to understand any imbalances in load distribution across your body.

A key element of our analysis is specific assessment of your feet, the critical point of contact with the ground and main force generation point in running. Weak feet or ankles can alter the dispersion of  forces across your body, often leading to running related injuries.

The next step involves us looking at your running shoes, allowing us to assess the tread wear pattern giving us initial insights into your foot strike dynamics.

Finally, we invite you to step outside and we video you running in the real world. By videoing you and then slowing your movements down, we can see how your body is responding to the forces of running.

Clients often say how fascinating they find this element of their running injury session, as how they think they run, is not often what shows up when the video is shown to them.

Slowing your movements down allows us to clearly see why you are experiencing pain while running, which allows us to quickly get to the root cause of your running injury.

To ensure we solve your running injury, we create you  a bespoke strengthening program and help you  alter your gait addressing the cause of your running injury. Our aim is to ensure we get to the root causes of your running pain to ensure your issue doesn’t return weeks or months down the line.

We aren’t running coaches, but we are Sports Scientists. We have been trained to look at the way the body works and understand the forces involved and how the muscles deal with those forces.

In their younger days, Ian used to be a triathlete and Gina a runner with Coventry Godivas Running Club, so we have a very real understanding of running and running injuries.

Gina is a member of BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Scientists) ensuring they stay up to date with the latest research.

You can book using our online booking system. Or you can email us or call us directly.

We don’t use receptionists, so when you call or email you get directly either Ian or Gina, who can answer any questions you may have about your condition, prior to making a booking.

Many insurance companies will cover the cost of running injuries and we work with many insurance companies.

If you wish to use insurance please ensure you contact us so we can arrange the correct authorisation.
